Home for Refugees: Home Team

For on Wednesday at 7:00pm PT | Other | Off-Campus | Anaheim, CA

Leader(s):

Home for Refugees is connecting with Eastside to create new Home Teams. We will have one online meeting a month and then meet several times a month with the family our team is matched with. Location TBD but usually in the Westminister, Anaheim or Irvine area.

Home Teams are small groups that partner with a refugee family and go forward in faith to provide supportive relationships as they help resettle the family for one year. The Home Teams and families build a friendship and become the family's friends and supporters here in the United States.

Home for Refugees' mission is to offer support to help relieve the tragedy of displacement and loss for families and individuals having to leave a place they once called home, and help them regain independent and self-sufficient living as they create their new home here. Home for Refugees is a faith-based non-profit which mobilizes faith and community groups to be involved in helping resettle our new refugee neighbors - refugees, special immigrant visa holders, asylees, and asylum-seekers - all who have had to flee their homelands in search of a safe place to live.

Home for Refugees' goal is that each refugee who arrives will receive a compassionate welcome and feel genuine warmth, generosity, and love from caring volunteers.

Serve on a Home Team:
• Join 5-8 other Eastsiders in partnering with Home for Refugees to welcome and care for a new refugee family through providing friendship-based support to resettle them in Orange County for their first year in the U.S.
• Play one of these roles on a Home Team: (1) financial coaching ; (2) job coaching to help with resume writing, filling out job applications, learning interview skills; (3) health advocacy and help learning the health care system; (4) helping their children enroll in school, and now learning online due to COVID; and (5) helping the family enroll in English classes and practice their conversational English.
